205 Eastside Square Huntsville, AL 35801 | | 256-532-6988 | | Send Email | |
| The mission of the Court Appointed Juvenile Advocate (CAJA) Program of Madison County is to provide well trained and closely supervised volunteers to serve as advocates for children as their cases progress through the child welfare and judicial systems. Our program recruits, trains, and supervises volunteers who advocate on behalf of children who are caught in the devastating cycle of severe abuse and neglect and have open cases in the Juvenile Court.
At any given time, there are almost 7,000 children in foster care in the state of Alabama. Madison County accounts for almost 400 of those children. National statistics show that children who have a CAJA volunteer spend 7.5 fewer months in foster care than do children without a special advocate. The goal of National CASA is for every child to have a special advocate by the year 2020. Currently, CAJA is only able to serve about 20% of the children seen by the courts for matters related to abuse and neglect. Additional funding is necessary to expand the CAJA Program of Madison County.
